August 12 2018, Sidney BC Canada - 2018 Auto Extravaganza hosted by Torque Masters Car Club
Anytime a group gets to a big number on annual event counting, you know they belong where they are at and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The Torque Masters Car Club has been tooling around the Saanich Peninsula for over 50 years - 51 to be sure.
Their biggest gathering each year is centered on "Sidney by the Sea" - a quaint little town just made for giant ferries and this car show. One of the biggest car shows on Vancouver Island, the Auto Extravaganza attracts participants from neighboring states and provinces and gawkers from afar.
Over 300 very nice vehicles spilled across Beacon Street and downtown side avenues - all neatly tucked into place by a pro parking team helping guide the vehicles into safe, even spaces. As always, collections of automobile collectors brings out the best in people - it's hard to walk past a few cars without meeting someone nice that's willing to share a lot of time and car talk with you. More to that point, it's harder to walk away from someone that's still talking because you have two more streets to wander down.
1966 Pontiac Beaumont Sport Deluxe
The flock of cars and trucks driven to the Auto Extravaganza represent a strong car building culture on Vancouver Island. American cars rule this mob but Canadian made car models are more celebrated and revered - and given extra points for long term survival against greater perils like the weather.
1966 Chevrolet Chevy II
The locals don't even mind if alien craft land here and claim all the resources - a staggering 1966 Chevrolet Chevy II with Alberta plates drove away with 3 giant trophies. No need to cheat when you win awards for Participant's Choice, People's Choice, and Best Custom.
Now that the show is over, the Islanders can start wishing for rain again. Set your egg timers for August 10-11 2019 - Auto Extravaganza #52 will be cooked just right.
