Burbank CA, Aug 5 2017 - The Downtown Burbank Car Classic rolled out with the annual tradition of sunshine but with more 2017 style heat and humidity.
A gauntlet of local classics and star cars take over a block stretch of shops along San Fernando Boulevard – a strip that was closed off to cars as a pedestrian mall in the days of Johnnie Carson. Being in the heart of Burbank means to be at the heart of car customizing culture.
Burbankers have been building their own cars for a century; today they also digitally build most of the movies at studios everyone else thinks are made in Hollywood.
The Petersen Automotive Museum is a long term supporter of the event - this year's stable of movie cars included:
1946 Ford convertible customized by George Barris from the 1978 movie “Grease”
1900 Overland Covered Wagon, a gift from Bob Hope to John Wayne
1999 Mach 5 Prototype from the 2008 movie “Speed Racer”
Fast & Furious 8 - Dodge Ice Charger
Cool star vehicles were presented by the Television Motion Picture Car Club, Vehicle Effects, Hollywood Hot Rods, Unique Twist and the Road Kings of Burbank (celebrating 65 years!). Something you don't see every day - four vehicles from the 2017 movie “The Fate of the Furious;” Dom’s blue Subaru BRZ, the Ice Charger, GTX, and the Letty 66 Corvette.
Fast and Furious 8 - 1966 Chevrolet Corvette
1951 Chevrolet Bel Air hard top
1965 Chevrolet Corvair Bounty Hunter
The Downtown Burbank Car Classic is produced by Downtown Burbank Partnership.
