Leno EcoJet Lands at The Art Center's Car Classic 12

Jay Leno drives his custom designed EcoJet through the parking lot onto the College of Design campus field.. Art Center College of Design celebrated the vehicles and individuals that have inspired past and future transportation designers at its annual Car Classic event. The highlight of the show themed "Inspired Designed", featured Tonight Show host Jay Leno interviewing legendary automotive designer Ron Hill. Speaking to an audience of more than 1,300 attendees, Leno said, "I like Car Classic because it is not a lot of cars, it's just really important cars and the people who come are all car people, enthusiasts." Leno called Hill's impressive life work "the apex of American automobile design." While discussing how technological and regulatory requirements impact car design, Hill explained that design constraints often lead to more creative solutions because they test the ingenuity of the designer. Leno asked Hill how a young designer right out of Art Center could go to Detroit and within a year design the tail fin for the Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz, the top-of-the-line model for GM's flagship division. Hill answered that he was in the right place at the right time.by Randy Berg
